Come view the fabulous wintering raptors of northwest Weld County's "Raptor Alley".  Meet at the, now closed, Nunn Cafe on south side of Nunn along Hwy 85 (across from east grain elevators).  Main routes to Nunn are:

  1. I-25N to Wellington to Larimer CR 64E (aka Nunn Road aka Weld CR 100)
  2. Hwy 85N from Greeley to Nunn
  3. I-25N to Hwy 14E to Ault to Hwy 85N to Nunn.

Feb 25, 2017

Total raptors = 44

  • Red-tailed Hawk - 5
  • Merlin - 1
  • Rough-legged Hawk - 8 (3 dark morphs)
  • Northern Harrier - 3
  • Prairie Falcon - 1
  • Ferruginous Hawk - 10 (1 dark morph, 3 on a fence line together--see photos))
  • American Kestrel - 7
  • Bald Eagle - 5
  • Golden Eagle - 2
  • UNID Buteo - 2

Jan 29, 2017 (30-40 mph winds!)

Total raptors:  12

  • Great Horned Owl - 2
  • Red-tailed Hawk - 3
  • Rough-legged Hawk - 1

  • Northern Harrier - 1
  • American Kestrel - 2

  • Pronghorn - 14+
  • CSU Ornithology Club documented other bird species as well

Overall we had great weather, most species were seen around my neighborhood, a two-mile diameter.  Total birds seen:  56.

  • Merlin - 1 [There are now two so far in the area of Nunn now]
