Audubon Rockies has given Gloria Nikolai permission to lead a couple of trips to this Audubon property in northern El Paso County. This is a rare opportunity to bird a pristine portion of Black Forest. Part of the property burned in 2013, but has recovered to a large extent. The wide variety of habitats—a pond, wetlands, shortgrass prairie, and Ponderosa forest—encourages a long species list. Meet at the ranch: 10165 Hodgen Road, Colorado Springs, 80908. If you are familiar with Black Forest, we are on Hodgen between Vollmer and Meridian. The driveway is on the south side of the road. There is no sign only a small sign with “10165” hanging on the fence. Because this is a residence as well as a sanctuary, it is important for participants to show up no earlier than 6:45 am. This trip is limited to 12 participants. Contact Gloria at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to sign up.
