Trail Difficulty: Easy
Directions: Meet at parking strip on north side of Ferril Lake. Directions: Enter park from Colorado Blvd. Northbound
turns left onto 22nd Ave. past Museum of Nature & Science; southbound turns right onto 22nd at police station. Go past
museum parking until road curves toward zoo. Take immediate left at "To Pavilion Bandstand" sign and go 300 yards
down to corner with tall spruce trees, where lake comes into view. Park diagonally on left beneath spruces.
The first weekend of summer will see the colonial waterbird colonies in Duck Lake (cormorants) and Ferril
Lake (egrets and herons) at their peak. Great photo-ops! We'll walk the park end to end to check for summer
regulars (woodpeckers, songbirds, hawks and jays) as well as irregulars (bushtits, flycatchers, maybe even a
stray oriole). Three dozen species or more is possible. Bring a hat, snacks and plenty of water. Register online
or contact leader.
